RESEARCH INTERESTS I'm interested in the cryosphere -- focusing on biogeochemistry and microbial ecology of the glacial and proglacial ecosystems. • • • I combine fieldwork and laboratory work / incubation experiments (spiced up with bioinformatics and statistics) to study microbial processes in cryospheric habitats affected by deglaciation. • • • HOBBIES & ADDICTIONS Curling 🇨🇿 Trails & Outdoors. Swimming. Coffee & craft beers & the best food. Outreach. Knitting. |

Projects participation |
• P JAK project 'Geohazards' (2025– ; Associate Researcher) Natural and Anthropogenic Georisks.
• ERC-CZ project (2022–25; Associate Researcher) New project will investigate the potential of the Greenland Ice Sheet to produce and release methane – CryoEco Microbiological scope -- subglacial meltwater & sediments, incubation experiments, ice drilling & sediment coring. • GAUK project (2019–21; PI) focus on the experimental part of my PhD project. Using microcosms to simulate the glacial-to-proglacial ecosystem transition. Incubation experiments, 16S rRNA/rDNA, GC-FID, etc. • GAČR project (2018–21; PhD student) focusing on Microbial methane oxidation beneath glaciers. The project is based primarily on incubation experiments, aiming to quantitatively assess the potential for anaerobic microbial methane oxidation in subglacial ecosystems. More @CryoEco website • AFG (2017; PI) Fieldwork-based project. Thanks to the Research Council of Norway Arctic Field Grant, I conducted a sailing trip across the Isfjorden (Svalbard) and sampled geologically discern glaciers, including their forefields. Samples were used in the experimental study of the microbial community development during the glacial-to-proglacial ecosystem transition. Project details @CryoEco and RiS. |
Internships, mobility |
Mar & Apr 2023 Repeated short stays at SoWa Stable Isotope Facility in České Budějovice, Czechia.
Mar 2023 Short stay at University in Tromsø, Norway. Nov 2016 Short stay at University of Bristol, UK, laboratory of Dr Jemma L Wadham. Sep 2014– Jan 2015 Erasmus+ University of Antwerpen (Belgium). Biology, Ocean & Lakes MSc study program. 2014–2015 Study internship at the Algology laboratory of Dr Van de Vijver, National Botanic Garden of Belgium. |
Fieldworks
|
My experience include logistics, problem solving, supervision & leading of small group of people, safety assessment, glacier touring, radio & satellite communication, helicopter riding & slinging, remote camping etc. I'm trained in administering first aid in remote areas. I'm experienced in aseptic and ultraclean sampling of liquids and solids in the field, filtering, in-situ incubations, extracting of gas from water, GHG measurements using portable spectrometer (MGGA), algae collection, and continuous river monitoring.
